This black bracket Sony 1080P AHD rear view camera is designed specifically for monitoring traffic behind you while driving, rather than as a wide-angle parking camera. It uses a narrow 60° lens so that vehicles appear at a more natural size on the screen, making it much easier to judge how far away they really are.

For a true rear-view driving camera, a lens in the 45–60-degree range is ideal. It gives you a perspective much closer to what you would see in a conventional interior mirror, without the “everything looks miles away” effect that you get from very wide-angle reversing cameras. The 8 mm lens fitted to this camera, combined with its 60° field of view, makes it an excellent choice for motorhomes, vans and lorries where you want an always-on rear view down the road.

At the heart of the camera is the Sony IMX307 1080P AHD image sensor – a “starlight” sensor well-known for its excellent low-light performance. It delivers a sharp 1920×1080 image with bright, vivid colours in the day, and good black-and-white detail at night. An IR-cut filter is used in daylight to improve colour accuracy, then automatically moves out of the way in low light so the sensor can make full use of the infrared illumination.

There are 18 infrared LEDs arranged around the lens, giving up to around 30 ft of night vision. The bracket is made from stainless steel and painted black, combining a smart appearance with long-term rust resistance. The camera can be mounted on either a horizontal surface (such as the top of a van roof) or a vertical rear wall, and then tilted to get the ideal rearward view.
