Volkswagen Crafter Brake Light Reversing Camera (CVBS 700 TVL) | CAM981This CVBS version of the CAM981 brake light reversing camera is designed as a clean, factory-style solution for the Volkswagen Crafter (2017–present). Rather than replacing the brake light itself, the camera mounts directly onto the existing OEM brake light unit, keeping the original light fully intact while adding a reversing camera. The camera uses our long-proven PC4089 high-res image sensor paired with a high-quality all-glass composite lens, producing a clear and reliable 700 TVL CVBS image with good colour and contrast. We’ve used this sensor for many years because we know it performs reliably to a high standard and it outperforms many of the lower-down versions commonly fitted to brake light cameras. A 160° diagonal viewing angle provides generous rear coverage to avoid any reversing accidents. Clear and reliable CVBS (NTSC) image from upgraded PC4089 sensor – Outputs a standard CVBS NTSC signal compatible with the vast majority of aftermarket reversing camera monitors, dash displays and head units. The PC4089 sensor delivers a clear and reliable 700 TVL image with natural colours and good contrast, chosen for long-term performance. High-quality all-glass composite lens – Uses a proper all-glass composite lens rather than plastic-glass alternatives. This helps maintain sharpness over time and avoids the UV sun-fade and “milky” appearance often seen with cheaper lenses. 160° diagonal wide viewing angle – Provides a wide, usable rear view when reversing, ideal for larger vans and long-wheelbase Crafter models. IP68 waterproof construction – Fully sealed IP68 housing, proven to withstand the worst the British weather can throw at it and suitable for year-round outdoor use. 4-pin aviation connector – Supplied with a standard 4-pin aviation connector for use with most aftermarket CVBS monitors and extension cables. Optional accessories – 4-pin to RCA adaptors and 10 m to 15 m extension cables are available to suit different monitor types and longer cable runs. We provide the hole saw, fixing bracket, and instructions to facilitate the addition of the overhang reversing camera to the original high-level brake light on the VW Crafter van.
There could be a number of reasons they may be cheaper than us, the most common are below :
- Rejected Production Runs - This is more common on the marketplaces where there are a lot of non-UK businesses (although the stock is often in the UK). When one of the larger factories produces a camera they will age-test a batch to ensure that the quality is sufficiently high to be able to send to their big customers (like us). If a production run fails this test with a high enough number having issues, the whole batch is often sold off for "recycling" the components. Sadly, these get placed in a container setting sail to the UK and other destinations, and eventually listed on a marketplace at crazy low prices - lower than we can buy hundreds at a time for. Sometimes you are lucky, sometimes you are not, depending on how badly the batch failed.
- Cheaper Components Used - There are different standards of image sensor, support chips, lenses and camera bodies. We opt for better quality; the results speak for themselves. We didn't earn our reputation by buying as cheap as we could; it's not what our customers want. Although at the same time we really do keep our prices as low as possible. The cheaper prices help us to sell more volume, which means we can bring the cameras in by ocean shipping, saving freight costs, which we pass to the consumer.
- Produced by a "Factory for the day" - We have seen some shocking quality cameras sent to us over the years by customers. There is a phenomenon in China where someone can rent factory space for a day or two in order to complete a production run. Often this is a factory employee that is trying to go it alone and start his own business. Sadly, they don't often have the best engineers, they usually buy the lowest price/quality components, have the lowest standard of production line worker, and they can't afford to reject a bad production run. These usually either end up on a Marketplace or sold directly from a Chinese website.
