We aren't massive fans of crimps here at Reversing Cameras UK. We have seen many bad crimp jobs in our time with people sending their working (once the crimp has been cut off) parts back. If you are going to crimp, then a ratchet crimp is one of the best ways to do so. They will easily apply enough force to the crimp to make a good contact compared to the basic ones found on some wire strippers.

Our preferred method of installation is soldering, but for an easy install with fewer tools we do see the appeal of crimp connectors. This fork crimp terminal is commonly used to earth/ground a wire to chassis and will fit to M5 (5mm) sized bolts/screws.

The Wago inline splice connector is ideal for easily connecting up power wires in dry areas. I have used Wago in my personal life, and I hear from many people how much they enjoy using the brand. These are quicker and more reliable than the old screw connector blocks.  

The 221 series is the more modern version compared to the 222 series that I fell in love with.  These new connectors are much more compact, and have an even easier lever lock to operate, as well as being transparent and able to see that you have a good connection.  The only down side is that they do cost more than the old school connection methods.  Although the reduction in stress and tools required is probably worth it for a lot of people.

Ideal for external connections thanks to its inner coating of meltable polyamide adhesive. Using a heat gun will ensure that your connection is secure and water tight. 

This is a new type of connection that a few of our customers recommended to us, so we decided to stock. We still prefer to use solder on our own connections, but we have had a play with these and have managed to make some very strong, secure connections. These connectors have a ring of solder inside, which melts when a heat gun is used to heat.  The heat shrink also shrinks to secure the joint, as well as internal hot melt adhesive to provide a water resistant seal.

Insulation tape can be used for:

• Covering an internal solder/crimp joint to avoid accidentally exposing the wires inside.
• Wrapping around non screw locking connections eg phono RCA to avoid the connectors accidentally separating.
• Cable tidying by wrapping around cables that you want to keep together (please be aware that if you ever want to take them apart afterwards there may be a sticky adhesive residue - re-usable hook and loop cable ties may be a better option if you plan to remove at some point)
