Importance of a quality monitor on picture quality

We often get asked why there are cheaper monitors available on marketplace sites. We also get lots of calls saying "I bought a monitor on eBay and it's failed", or "I'm on my 4th camera from Amazon, can you help". Unfortunately, there are a lot of unscrupulous sellers out there, and many, many container loads of failed age tested production runs to sell off cheap.

We sell quality reversing cameras, monitors, and cables. Our products aren't destined for an early grave in a landfill site, rather they will perform well, for many, many years to come. They may look the same as cheaper versions, because all factories use the same "public design". However the quality of the components and workmanship means there is a huge variation in performance and longevity.

Everyone knows that having a good reversing camera impacts the picture quality, but did you know that the quality of the monitor can also have a huge impact? The photo shows the exact same camera (running through a signal splitter). The camera is aimed at the ceiling so that a light source and a dark area are in the same shot. Notice how the cheaper monitor panel just shows darkness to the left hand side, because it can't handle the full spectrum of colours/contrast. On paper these are both 800x480 pixel mirror monitors, and you would think they would perform equally. Unfortunately in life, you very often get what you pay for. Having said that, we have seen some branded systems that perform very poorly, yet cost a lot.

We rely on returning customers, and word of mouth, so we believe in sourcing quality parts. Even our budget range parts are good quality.
