About the Ford Transit Custom (barn door) brake light reversing + rear view camera with 7 inch mirror monitor kit

When somebody wants a reversing camera for a van, the most popular option these days is a brake light reversing camera. This is because of the following reasons:

  • Brake light reversing camera to fit the smaller Ford Transit Custom vans with double doors built before May 2016 - using the bulb type rear lights.
  • This brake light camera replaces the original left hand side door brake light, and provides one with a high quality reversing camera fitted.
  • Top quality 7 inch rear view mirror monitor display, with options to either clip over existing mirror, or attach directly to the windscreen fitment.
  • A Ford swan neck windscreen mounting bracket is selectable if the metal windscreen fitment/button is present on your van. If you have nothing present, we can supply a swan neck bracket that allows you to add a Ford fitting/button (with loctite 319 glue).
  • 2 Year Guarantee with the specialists - Reversing Cameras UK Ltd.
  • The camera supplied in this kit is special, as it is also fitted with an always on rear view camera to monitor traffic. This makes the camera system useful 100% of the driving time, instead of just when in reverse.

Mirror Monitor Mounting Options

We stock a number of different mounting options for the mirror monitor, depending on what you currently have fitted to your van. Kindly note that if you choose any mount other than the clip-over original mirror, and your van has a plastic trim cover that hides the metal mirror mount button, this will need to be removed and likely won't fit back once the bracket is fixed in position - although we have been told that this isn't too much of an issue since the mirror monitor mostly hides this anyway.

Clip over original mirror

This type of mirror monitor has spring loaded clips on the rear, instead of 4 screw holes for our swan neck brackets to fit.  Ideal if you have a van with an interior mirror already fitted.

ACCMB2 - Fit to original Ford windscreen button

This is the most commonly seen windscreen button fitted to various Ford vans.  We have had customers with Transit customs who have told us they have had to remove plastic trim, and if they have auto wipe windscreen wipers, they have had to remove a plastic bracket that sits on top of the regular metal button shown in the image below.  The plastic trim may need trimming or removing, the good news is that this is not easily noticeable once the new mirror monitor is in position.

ACCMB2 + Button + Glue - Adds a new Ford windscreen button to vans without one

If you have no metal windscreen button to attach our bracket to, then you can add your own.  This option provides the Ford windscreen stalk, plus the Ford windscreen button, as well as the Loctite 319 glue.  Please see our instructions on how to glue a mirror button to the windscreen.  Download our PDF fitting instructions for fitting the windscreen button with Loctite 319 mirror button adhesive.

Choice of kit power options

  • On the monitor wiring harness is a 2.1mm DC socket. On the drop down menu of this product, you can select your desired power lead to plug in to this.
  • The standard hardwiring is supplied with all options, this terminates in a red wire (+12V/+24V), and black wire (earth).
  • For the ultimate quick install is a lighter plug option. Some people also order this just for the initial setup, before changing to the standard hardwiring/fuse tap.
  • Fuse taps aka piggyback fuse holders, are the most recent addition to our options. This allows you to "piggyback" off an existing circuit from your fuse box. The most common size fuse found in modern vehicles is the mini blade (size = 10.9mm wide x 16.4mm tall), older vehicles are likely to have the standard blade (size = 19.1mm wide x 18.8mm tall). Download and read our Fuse Tap installation instructions PDF for more information.
  • Our fuse taps were designed by us, they have a 200cm lead that connects directly to the monitor socket with no soldering / crimping required. There is a black wire with an earth terminal attached - designed to fix to a chassis bolt/screw.  This earth wire/terminal can be separated away from the red wire to enable you to find the most convenient ground/earth (although often this is next to the fuse box).

Easy-Fit Wiring

  • We have been using this type of cabling since 2007, and it has performed perfectly in all of this time. It is called the 4 pin aviation cable, and uses what is known as a 4 pin GX12 connector.
  • This type of connector is very durable, and can be kept outside exposed to rain and freezing temperatures.
  • It makes fitting easier, and avoids CANBUS issues due to the monitor powering the camera.
  • It keeps contacts clean and dry, plus prevents them from accidental separation.
  • It has become the industry standard connector, which means you aren't forced to buy future cameras/cables/upgrades from one retailer - as parts are interchangeable between numerous suppliers (although we are confident you will be impressed enough with us that you will choose us for any future upgrades/spare parts).
  • All of our aviation extension cables are high quality, with the inner cores consisting of pure copper. We do not use the cheaper CCA (Copper Coated Aluminium) or CCS (Copper Coated Steel) cables, because they are more prone to failure/degradation over time.

Image Sensor for Camera

This particular system uses two of the PC4089 1/3" Hi-Res CMOS image sensor (not to be confused with the older technology low res CMOS), this runs at 700TVL and gives a really crisp picture with a good colour replication.  We use 4xglass composite lens instead of the cheaper 2xglass, 2xplastic lenses, which cloud/fade over time due to UV exposure.  With our camera you can be assured of good performance and long term reliability.

2 Year Guarantee

We supply with a 2 year Guarantee with us, meaning we will repair or replace any non-user damaged parts that are deemed faulty.  Our failure rate is very low even beyond these two years, if you have a problem outside of 2 years we should still have compatible parts and possible repairs for reasonable amounts.

Parts Tested in the UK

The parts of this kit will have been tested twice, once by the factory and once by us.  We check all the items in the kit including all cables, trigger wires, IR leds and menu functions to reduce any chance of having a non working part.  Our fault rate is extremely low, and we just like to ensure that we avoid any imperfection slipping past.  This is why professional fitters love us.
