Introducing the behind the number plate bracket reverse camera - CAM801PThis behind-the-number-plate reversing camera is designed for customers who want a small, discreet camera that is easy to fit and largely hidden once installed. We used to stock a similar style many years ago, and when we found this updated version with higher quality image sensor options available, we were happy to add it back into our range. The camera itself is very compact, measuring approximately 22mm deep and 18mm in height. It is mounted to a slim bracket that sits mostly behind the number plate, keeping the visible footprint to an absolute minimum. The bracket can be fixed using screws, although our preferred method is to use a strong adhesive sealant or high-bond tape such as Scotch Red for a clean installation. Adjustable Viewing Angle - The metal bracket can be bent slightly to angle the camera downward for reversing, or left straighter to provide a rear-facing view of following traffic. This makes it suitable for use either purely as a reversing camera or as a rear-view camera if required. Wide Viewing Angle Coverage - A wide-angle lens is fitted, providing an approximate 150° diagonal field of view. This gives good coverage behind the vehicle, helping to highlight obstacles, posts, and low objects when manoeuvring. Mirror Image with Optional Conversion - As supplied, the camera outputs a mirror image, replicating what you would expect to see in your normal mirrors. If required, this can be converted to a non-mirror image by cutting the appropriate trigger wire on the camera fly lead. Guideline Function ON/OFF - Static parking guidelines are enabled as standard. These can be removed by cutting the relevant trigger wire on the camera fly lead, allowing the image to be displayed without overlay lines. High Specification Image Sensor - The camera produces a colour image using a high-specification image sensor, delivering clear detail and good colour replication. Weather Protection - The camera body itself is rated to IP68 and is suitable for permanent external mounting. Please note there is an inline voltage regulator located approximately 60cm along the cable. This component is not waterproof and must be positioned in a dry, protected location inside the vehicle to ensure long-term reliability. Power Requirements - The camera operates on a 12V power supply, most commonly taken from the reverse light circuit. This makes it suitable for the majority of cars, vans, and motorhomes. 2-Year Guarantee and UK-Based Support - This reversing camera is backed by our full 2-year guarantee. Should you ever need help or advice, you are dealing directly with a UK-based specialist who understands the products and installations inside out. Connector details and power information Connectors Info (RCA and 4 Pin) The camera is supplied with both a 4-pin screw connector and an RCA phono connector. You can choose which to use by changing at the small 6.5mm disconnect point located roughly 60cm back from the camera. Please note there is also a non-waterproof power regulator at the same distance. This must be positioned in a dry, protected location (for example inside a tailgate) to prevent premature failure. 4-Pin to RCA Adaptor Option Even though this camera is supplied with both connector types as standard, we still offer a discounted 4-pin to RCA adaptor for those who need it. This can be useful in two scenarios: 1) Modern vehicles with CANBUS or pulsed (PWM) reverse feeds Using a 4-pin cable plus this adaptor lets you take camera power from an ignition feed at the front of the vehicle instead of relying on the reverse light feed. You can still connect a simple reverse-light trigger so the monitor or stereo only wakes up when reverse is selected. 2) Viewing the camera even when not in reverse If you want to see the camera on demand (for example while driving forward or towing), the adaptor allows you to power the camera independently and view it without needing to be in reverse gear. |
