Behind Number Plate Budget Reversing Camera – 700TVL CMOS (CVBS) | CAM801B

The CAM801B is a budget-rated behind number plate reversing camera, designed for drivers who want a small, discreet and easy-to-fit camera without altering the appearance of the vehicle. The camera body itself is very compact, sitting mostly hidden behind the number plate, with only the lens exposed.

We stocked a similar style of camera many years ago, and it was always a popular option due to how subtle it looks once fitted. When we found this updated version with higher-spec image sensor options available, we brought it back into the range as a cost-effective alternative to our premium number plate cameras.

Although the image sensor specification is what you would normally expect to see on a higher-end camera, we have classified the CAM801B as budget because the overall image quality does not quite meet our premium standards. The price has been reduced accordingly, making this a very good value option for those who want functionality and discreet fitting at a lower cost.

Key features

Discreet behind number plate mounting – The camera housing measures approximately 22 mm deep and 18 mm high, with the mounting bracket mostly hidden behind the number plate itself.

Flexible mounting angle – The metal bracket can be gently bent to angle the camera downwards for reversing, or left straighter to view following traffic if required.

700TVL CMOS image sensor – Produces a clear colour image suitable for general reversing assistance. While high in resolution, this model is priced as a budget option.

Wide 150° diagonal viewing angle – Provides a wide field of view to help spot obstacles, kerbs and hazards behind the vehicle.

Dual connector system – Supplied with both a 4-pin screw connector and an RCA/phono connector. You can select which to use by swapping at the 6.5 mm disconnect point located approximately 60 cm back from the camera.

Mirror image with optional non-mirror mode – Outputs a mirror image as standard, matching what you expect to see in your mirrors. This can be converted to non-mirror by cutting the appropriate trigger wire on the camera fly lead.

Static reversing guidelines – The camera outputs fixed guidelines by default. These can be removed by cutting a trigger wire on the camera fly lead if a clean image is preferred.

IP68 waterproof camera housing – IP68 waterproof housing, proven to withstand the worst the British weather can throw at it.

Important installation note – There is a non-waterproof in-line power regulator located approximately 60 cm from the camera. This must be installed in a dry, protected area (for example inside a tailgate) to prevent premature failure.

12V operation – The camera operates on a 12V supply. Most 12/24V monitors reduce voltage down to 12V via the 4-pin connection (all 4-pin monitors we have ever stocked do this).

Optional 4-pin to RCA adaptor

Although this camera already includes both connector types, we also offer a discounted 4-pin to RCA adaptor, which can be useful in certain installations:

1) Vehicles with CANBUS or pulsed (PWM) reverse feeds
Using a 4-pin cable with the adaptor allows camera power to be taken from an ignition feed at the front of the vehicle, while still using a simple reverse trigger to activate the display.

2) Viewing the camera when not in reverse
The adaptor allows the camera to be powered independently, making it possible to view the camera on demand (for example when towing or driving forward).
